AEASP 2024 Scholar Giovanny Martinez Rodriguez
Giovanny Martinez-Rodriguez is a rising senior at Macalester College, majoring in economics with minors in math, statistics, and data science. Originating from Caracas, Venezuela, Giovanny developed an early interest in the economics of poverty, crime, and education. He plans to explore these areas further through an undergraduate honors thesis in economics during his senior year.
Driven by a desire to contribute to the field of economics, Giovanny focuses on issues like poverty, labor market inequalities, and crime. He is keen on applying spatial tools and machine learning algorithms to economic research. Beyond his academic pursuits, Giovanny mentors underrepresented students at Macalester and organizes a BIPOC-centered financial literacy camp, reflecting his commitment to community support and education.
Looking ahead, Giovanny aims to pursue a Ph.D. in economics. His goal is to enter academia as a professor and researcher, where he can influence economic policies on poverty through research and teaching, demonstrating a blend of academic rigor and practical engagement.
