AEASP 2022 Scholar Fabian Leal

Fabian Leal is an incoming 4th-year student at the University of Florida (UF). He is an Economics and Geography double-major and a Mathematics minor. Fabian is a Venezuelan-American originally from Caracas, and later grew up in Miami, FL. He is involved in and has held multiple leadership positions at UF's University Economics Society. He will also be pursuing an undergraduate honors thesis in Economics throughout his senior year.

AEASP 2022 Scholar Ava LaPlante

Ava LaPlante is a junior at St. Catherine University pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Public Policy. She is a research collaborator with Dr. Kristine West on the "Welcoming the Dear Neighbor?" economics project, a project that examines the effect of racial covenants on economic upward mobility. She has also worked as a research assistant with Dr. Caroline Krafft to coauthor a soon-to-be-published paper on the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic on the labor force in Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Sudan, and Morocco.

AEASP 2022 Scholar Darien Kearney

Darien Kearney is a master's student of applied economics at Cornell University. Before Cornell, he earned his BBA and MBA in finance and an MS in applied psychology. His decision to become more involved in research comes from his experience as an investment analyst, where he modeled executive retirement scenarios. During this time, he observed how client moods fluctuated with the economic downturn of COVID-19, and intense discussions around portfolio restructuring increased due to client uncertainty.
