I am a double major in economics and history at Central Connecticut State University. I am currently a junior in my undergrad studies. My passions involve researching and studying economic behaviors, keeping up to date with news headlines and changes to the economy. My passion is also towards helping women who have struggled in their lives as widows or single mothers who cannot speak English and are facing economic and financial difficulties. I have been the Vice President of our history and economics club at Central Connecticut State University.

Eddie Gray is a doctoral student in the Department of Economics at Howard University. His primary research interests lie at the intersection of Urban Economics, Labor Economics, and Public Economics. He is also interested in research on the racial wealth gap, entrepreneurship among Black Americans, and the emerging equity crowdfunding sector. Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, Mr.

AEASP 2022 Fellow Aisha Udochi

Aisha Udochi is a doctoral student in Economics at Howard University and an Africa-China researcher concentrating in growth and development theory. As an Orrick Fellow, she studied Chinese involvement in Nigeria's shoe manufacturing industry and examined the role of foreign direct investment and knowledge transfer in facilitating local development. Presently, she is working with the US Federal Reserve on a big data investigation of financial transactions in Nigeria. Her research interests include wealth generation, inequality, financial inclusion and industrialization.

AEASP 2022 Fellow Beza Afework

Beza Afework is an economics Ph.D. student at Howard University in Washington, DC. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Addis Ababa University and her master's degree in Economics, Summa cum laude, from Howard University. She specializes in Growth and development and has worked at the International Food Policy research institute (IFPRI) as a summer data analyst, where she gained valuable experience in her field of specialization.

AEASP 2022 Fellow Whitney Brown

Whitney Brown is pursuing a PhD in Economics at Howard University in Washington DC.  She is proud to be a 2x HBCU graduate.  She received her M.A. in Economics from Howard in 2020 and her B.S. in Finance and Economics from Winston-Salem State University in 2016. Whitney was born and raised in the small town of Henderson, North Carolina. She credits this to her humble upbringing and motivation to tell cultural stories through economic research.

I am a native New Yorker, that currently resides in Maryland. I have previously worked, as a Math teacher for 10 years, and a government accountant for 15 years. I enjoy: reading, running, singing, and watching movies. Finding economics as my eventual study was a semesters-long process, as I transitioned from engineering to math, and then finally to economics. Economics allowed me to marry my passion for demographics with my affinity for math, into a study that spoke to most of my interest

AEASP 2022 Scholar Karla Zendejas

Karla Zendejas is a fourth-year student at the University of Rochester majoring in Economics with a minor in the Environmental Humanities. She is originally from Brownsville, TX but spent a lot of her time growing up on the other side of the border in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Karla has experience being a head teaching assistant for an environmental economics course and a teaching assistant for an introduction to economics course at her university. AEASP 2022 Scholar Diego Villatoro

Diego grew up in Honduras and, in 2002, came to the US with family. Moving to the US opened his eyes to the enormous wealth disparity among nations. Most striking was the massive infrastructure of cities. Though unremarkable to most, he had only seen colonial-style towns, which paled compared to Los Angeles, CA, the first stop. After graduating HS, he joined the US Army. He felt it was his duty to serve the nation that had adopted him.
