AEASP 2023 Faculty Justin Pierce

Justin Pierce is the Chief of the Trade and Financial Studies Section, International Finance Division, at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington, D.C.  He has advised Howard University students enrolled in programs and courses offered jointly with the Federal Reserve since 2015.  Dr. Pierce’s research focuses on the implications of changes in international trade policy for individuals, firms, and regions.  His recent work examines the impact on the manufacturing sector of the 2018-2019 tariff actions and U.S.

AEASP 2023 Faculty David Card

David Card is the Class of 1950 Professor of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley. Before joining Berkeley he taught at University of Chicago in 1982-83 and Princeton University from 1983 to 1996. He has held visiting appointments at Columbia University, Harvard University, UCLA, and the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences. From 2012 to 2017 he was Director of the Labor Studies Program at the National Bureau of Economic Research.

AEASP 2023 Faculty Gbadebo Odalaru

Gbadebo Odalaru teaches and mentors graduate students at the Washington DC-based Bay Atlantic University (BAU) and the Socio-Economic Research and Applications Projects (SERAP). He was a former visiting scholar to the Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE), University of Oxford, UK; Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), South Korea; Economic Research and Statistical Division (ERSD), World Trade Organization, Geneva, Switzerland; United Nations Institute for Economic Development Planning (UNIDEP), Dakar, Senegal, among others.

AEASP 2023 Faculty John Rust

John Rust is a professor of economics at Georgetown University. He previously taught at the University of Maryland, Yale University, and the University of Wisconsin. He is best known for his research on the development of computationally tractable methods for empirically modeling dynamic decision-making under uncertainty and making fundamental contributions to a very active area of current research on estimating dynamic structural models in econometrics.

AEASP 2023 Faculty Tingting Xiong

Dr. Tingting Xiong is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Howard University's Department of Economics, where she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in International Economics. She received her Ph.D. in Economics from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. Her research projects focus on international capital flows, multinational corporation activities, international trade, and economic growth.

AEASP 2023 Faculty Sergio Urzua

Sergio Urzua is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Maryland. He is a Research Associate at the NBER, Research Fellow at IZA, and International Research Fellow at Clapes-UC. His research focuses on labor, development and applied econometrics. His research agenda includes the evaluation of social/policy interventions in developing economies. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 2007.

AEASP 2023 Faculty Omari Swinton

Dr. Omari H. Swinton is a professor in the Economics department at Howard University, where he teaches introductory, intermediate, and urban economics.  He is currently the Director of Graduate Studies and Chair.  His research interests include labor economics and education.  He has papers examining the teenage labor market, the benefits from attending HBCU's, and the returns to a college education.

AEASP 2023 Faculty Alexander Henke

Alex Henke is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Howard University.  He obtained his doctorate in economics at the University of Washington, Seattle in 2016. He has two main fields of research. First, he uses game theory and contract theory to analyze the economics of corruption and pro-social preferences in organizations. Second, he is an applied microeconomist studying the economic and policy determinants of domestic violence and crime, with a recent focus on the COVID-19 pandemic.
