My name is Emilio Pantoja, and I am a second-year at Pitzer College majoring in Math and Economics. My primary interests lie in health economics, which was largely motivated by my experience working as a research assistant on a paper focused on food insecurity. Through this program, I hope to develop the skills necessary to successfully complete a PhD program in economics with the goal of pursuing a career in academia. AEASP 2022 Scholar Myles Owens

Myles Owens is a rising first-year doctoral student of economics. He graduated cum laude from Loyola University New Orleans in the spring of 2022. While at Loyola he participated in student government, was a member of the Omicron Delta Epsilon economics honors society, and was very active in faith-based organizations on campus. Myles will continue his education at George Mason University. Myles is also a Mercatus PhD fellow at the Mercatus Center. His research interest includes development, economic history, and political economy.

AEASP 2022 Scholar Haroldo Nesbeth

Haroldo was born in Los Angeles, CA to Jamaican immigrant parents and is a first-generation college student. He has been singing individually and in choir for eight years and has wrestled for six. Interestingly, Haroldo came to college as a wrestling recruit and quickly developed a new passion to study the intersection between race and economics. Haroldo plans to pursue a PhD in Economics.

AEASP 2022 Scholar Kaythari Maw

Kaythari Maw is a first-year master's student at Cornell University pursuing an MS in Regional Science with a concentration in Urban and Regional Economics. She graduated from Barnard College in 2021 with an economics major. Kaythari, or Kay, is currently President of the Cornell Regional Science Student Association and the Cornell Myanmar Students Association, respectively. She is also a recipient of Cornell University's Southeast Asia Program's Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship, which supports her studies on the Burmese language and Myanmar studies.

Jemmy Marc is a third-year undergraduate student at the University of Florida pursuing a major in economics. Born in Haiti and raised in Miami, the experiences he had growing up helped develop an inquisitive spirit early on. His research interests mostly revolve around how development and inequality manifest themselves both within and across nations. AEASP 2022 Scholar Fabian Leal

Fabian Leal is an incoming 4th-year student at the University of Florida (UF). He is an Economics and Geography double-major and a Mathematics minor. Fabian is a Venezuelan-American originally from Caracas, and later grew up in Miami, FL. He is involved in and has held multiple leadership positions at UF's University Economics Society. AEASP 2022 Scholar Ava LaPlante

Ava LaPlante is a junior at St. Catherine University pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Public Policy. She is a research collaborator with Dr. Kristine West on the "Welcoming the Dear Neighbor?" economics project, a project that examines the effect of racial covenants on economic upward mobility. She has also worked as a research assistant with Dr. Caroline Krafft to coauthor a soon-to-be-published paper on the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic on the labor force in Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Sudan, and Morocco.

AEASP 2022 Scholar Darien Kearney

Darien Kearney is a master's student of applied economics at Cornell University. Before Cornell, he earned his BBA and MBA in finance and an MS in applied psychology. His decision to become more involved in research comes from his experience as an investment analyst, where he modeled executive retirement scenarios. During this time, he observed how client moods fluctuated with the economic downturn of COVID-19, and intense discussions around portfolio restructuring increased due to client uncertainty.
